The Truth is:

I never chose you

The book is entitled – The truth is: I Never Loved You –  a fiction book.

The story is about two teenagers who meet at the University of Cape Town from different small towns: Cofimvaba and Sterkspruit. On their arranged date they discovered that their first names were influenced by their birth circumstances- the boy’s name is Sthonga, meaning thunder because on the day of his birth a deafening thunder resulted in her mother giving birth; while the girl’s name is Nomonde, meaning patience because she is the seventh and last born in her home – though one of her parents, father,  was satisfied with six children, the mother insisted that they should continue trying for a girl child because all their six children were boys. When the last born turned out to be a girl, they decided to name her patience.

When the two teenagers met in their third year, they were both celibate and only concentrated on their studies. However, an arranged date for the two teenagers helped to reveal some well-kept secrets as the lady was forced to go home to face her parents about a prearranged marriage agreement between her family and the other one. Her unplanned  and sudden arrival reveals the shenanigans of the family she was meant to marry in.

There is also a friendship theme where a friend of the boy is hellbent on convincing his homeboy to consider having a girlfriend; and ends up hooking him up with his study mate who he thinks would suit his friend’s character. The friend himself is engaged with her childhood girlfriend and wouldn’t want his friend to be left out.

The boy whose family has a prearranged marriage with Nomonde’s family studies in another university and later befriends a group of friends who turn out to be a car syndicate. When their shenanigans are exposed, coincidentally, Nomonde  finds an opportunity to escape her pre-arranged marriage, and that paved her way to be with the boy she fell for at her university. All is well that ends well, and justice prevails at the end of the book.
